Obituary for Belva Corene York

Belva Corene York, 93, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 26th at Rosebush Manor surrounded by family. A funeral service for Belva will be celebrated at Clark Family Funeral Chapel at 11:00am on Thursday, July 1st. The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, June 30th from 4-8pm and on Thursday, July 1st one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Rosebush Manor or the charity of your choice.

Belva was born on September 4th, 1927 in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania. She was the second of seven children born to Madison and Goldie (Haught) Moore. She spent her early childhood in Daybrook, West Virginia after which, in 1934, her family moved to Mt. Pleasant. West Virginia would always call her back and she often returned to the hills and hollers to spend time with her numerous relatives still residing in the region. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1946. She later married Gerald “Jerry” Murphy, and together they had a daughter, Pamela, in 1951. Belva later married Bob York.

She began her working career at the Murphy’s Dime Store, later co-owning and operating the Mt. Pleasant A&W Drive-In. She then worked for over 20 years as a radiology clerk at Central Michigan Community Hospital, retiring in 1990. Working at the hospital is where she developed her love of a good raspberry-filled doughnut during her coffee breaks. Belva had a warm and welcoming personality. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends where she shared her talents and enthusiasm for cooking (there was always great food and cookies for the grandkids when they came home from school), baking Christmas goodies, crafting, and collecting, but may be best remembered for spending time over a quilting frame creating many beautiful and treasured quilts, often in the company of friends and family.

Surviving her is her daughter, Pam (Chuck) Bunting of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren Ben (Nisha) Bunting of Edinburgh, Scotland; Amy (Jason) Hoss of Alto; and John (Amy) Bunting of Mt. Pleasant. “Granny B” was greatly loved by her six great-grandchildren: Reece and Galen Bunting; Ainsley Hoss; and Jackson, Cooper, and Myles Bunting. Belva is also survived by her sister, Shirley Foster and brother, Eric (Connie) Moore as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Jerry Murphy and Bob York; brothers Bob Moore and Gary Moore; and sisters Phyllis Breedlove and Jackie Cotter; and brothers-in-law Jim Breedlove and Melvin Foster and sister-in-law Janice Moore.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Rosebush Manor for the excellent care given to Belva.
