Betty was born in Mt. Pleasant on June 23, 1932, the daughter of William J. and Jessie Marie (Reed) Frantz. She was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School with the Class of 1950. Betty married Paul Ray Clark on November 24, 1951, in Mt. Pleasant. He preceded her in death in 1998. She was a woman of countless talents, many of which she enjoyed for income and pleasure, including sewing clothing for dolls to brides and bridesmaids, cake decorating, playing piano, and crafting; most of which she shared with others as a teacher and leader. After attending Western Michigan University, she worked for many years as a paraprofessional in the childcare program of Mt. Pleasant Public Schools. Betty was a member of First United Methodist Church; 4-H; Girl Scouts; Calla-Rebekah Lodge 217; and a founding member of the Heart of Michigan Clowns. Most notably, Betty was a long-time entertainer and performer, known to many as Jiggs the Clown, painting faces and volunteering for many community events as well as training many in the art of clowning.

Betty is survived by her children Paula Kay (Joe) Parise of Oscoda; Marrianne E. (John L.) Smith of Mt. Pleasant, Nancy C. (Wayne) Davis of Grayling, Richard P. (Edwina) Clark of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren Jessica L. Smith, Patterson P. Smith, Justin D. Davis, Samantha B. (Mick) Clark; great-grandchildren Paige, Aydden, Blayke, Rylynn Clark; and many nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband Paul R. Clark; granddaughter Anna M. Clark; son-in-law Gary M. Nettleton; grandson Ryan J. Davis; brother William (Bea) Frantz, Jr.; and sisters Virginia (Kenneth) Wold and June (Leon) Young.
