Obituary for Betty Lou McDonald

McDONALD, BETTY LOU, age 82, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Friday, January 9, 2021, at Stone Lodge Memory Care in Shepherd.

Private Graveside Service for Betty will take place at Deerfield Township Cemetery on Sunday, January 10, 2021, with Nick McDonald officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice.

Betty was born August 16, 1938, in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Willis and Geraldine (Jewell) McLachlan. She was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School with the class of 1954. Betty and Elton McDonald were married in Mt. Pleasant in 1954. Betty was highly active volunteering her time arranging community events and working closely with people through passion and prayer. She loved to spend time with her family and making sure others were taken care of. Betty enjoyed cooking, baking, reading, crocheting, and flower gardening. She was an active member of Coomer United Methodist Church, serving as lay leader and board member. Betty was a 4-H leader of art and photography, was a member of Chippewa Wranglers Riding Club, and was treasurer of McDonald Construction. She was co-owner of Special Moments Catering. She and Elton bred dalmatians.

Betty is survived by her children: Bonnie Thackrey of Mt. Pleasant, Gary McDonald (Judy Haynes) of Mt. Pleasant, Linda Karrick of St. Petersburg, FL; grandchildren Jason (Jenni) McDonald, Lynde Wiltse, Nicholas (Amy) McDonald, and Robert (Sarah) Wiltse; 10 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Agnes McDonald; brother-in-law Robert Heinlein; several nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters Barbara Heinlein, Shirley (Ken) Weston, Marjorie (Doyle) McDonald, son-in-law’s Keith Thackrey and Richard Karrick; and brother-in-law Bill (Edna) McDonald.
