Obituary for Betty Sue Olson (Hoople)

Betty Sue Olson, age 84, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Sunday, May 29, 2022, at Green Acres under the care of The Care Team Hospice.

Funeral Services for Betty will be held at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Thursday, June 2, 2022, at 11 a.m. with Fr. Loren Kalinowski officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. A Luncheon will follow the Committal Service in the Reflections Reception Center. The family will receive friends at the funeral chapel on Wednesday, June 1, from 5 to 9 p.m. Visitation will continue the day of the service from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to The Care Team Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Betty was born on July 6, 1937, in Fenwick, MI, daughter of Evylin "Bill" and Dorothy (Ranous) Hoople. She married Thomas John Olson on August 25, 1956, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Betty worked as an elementary school teacher at Rosebush Elementary for over 27 years, retiring in 1995. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the Evening Bloomers Garden Club. She enjoyed painting with water colors, doing crafts, and making baskets and stained glass. In her younger years, Betty loved to go ball room dancing especially at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. She also enjoyed boating, traveling, touring in their antique cars, wintering in Florida, but most importantly, spending time with her family.

Betty is survived by her children, MariAnne (Frank) Reihl of Rodney, Amy Jo (Terry) Fewless of Big Rapids, and Thomas C. (Patti) Olson of Remus; 6 grandchildren Andy J. (Angela) Reihl of Beal City, Mark M.(Danielle) Reihl of Manistee, Jason T. (Joanna) Donley of Morley, Amanda Jo Olson of Mt. Pleasant, Courtney Anne (Ryan "Bubba") Gritter of Grandville, and Abby Marie Olson of Cutlerville; step grandchildren Kris (Ashley) Fewless of Manistee, and Nathan (Jennifer) Fewless of Spring Lake, MI; 10 great-grandchildren; 6 step great-grandchildren; siblings, Marge Redick of Jenison, Marilyn (Steve) Chapin of Stanton, and Bruce (Jan) Hoople of Stanton; brothers-in-law, Robert Olson of Mt. Pleasant, Richard (Patty) Olson of Kalamazoo, and William Olson of Grand Rapids; sister-in-law, Emily (Michael) Fawley of Portage; and many nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Tom in 2018; parents; in-laws, Carl and Ruth Olson; brothers-in-law, John Olson and William Redick; and sister-in-law, Kay Olson.
