Obituary for Bonnie Lou Schaeffer (Grace)

SCHAEFFER, BONNIE LOU, age 87, of Mt. Pleasant was called to glory on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, at McLaren Central Michigan Hospital.

A Private Family Funeral Service for Bonnie will be held at the Faith Lutheran Church with Rev. Michael Biedenbender officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends for a public visitation at Clark Family Funeral Chapel in the West Lawn Sanctuary on Sunday, June 27, from 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Faith Lutheran Church, American Heart Association or Dementia Society of America. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Bonnie was born on December 8, 1933, in Rosebush, daughter of Earl and Beulah (Smith) Grace. She was salutatorian from Weidman High School. Bonnie married Kenneth Schaeffer on November 27, 1952, in Rosebush. Bonnie worked as administrative bookkeeper at Mt. Pleasant Public Schools for 25 years. Bonnie was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church and was a previous member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. While at Immanuel Lutheran, she founded Chefs with Spirit and was instrumental in organizing Christmas Outreach. She was also active as Chair of Altar Guild, helped with funeral dinners, and other meals at the church. She was passionate about her community and volunteered at the Isabella County Commission on Aging, Isabella Thrift Shop, Office of Isabella County Fairgrounds, golfed, and bowled. She received the Eagle Award from the Mt. Pleasant Chamber of Commerce. Over the years, Ken and Bonnie hosted 14 exchange students from around the world, and remain in contact with many of them.

Bonnie is survived by her children, Rev. Dr. Kendall (Karen) Schaeffer of LaPorte, IN, and Larae Fedor of Mt. Pleasant; 11 grandchildren, Rachel (Ryan) Winter, Joel (Katreena) Schaeffer, Jason (Katie) Schaeffer, Jeremy (Alex) Schaeffer, Tia Larae Fedor, Kenneth John Fedor, and Stephen Michael Fedor; 9 great-grandchildren; brother, Leroy (Gail) Grace of Lake City; sister-in-law, Betty Schaeffer, of Farwell; and many nieces and nephews.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, Ken in 2018; parents; sister-in-law Janet Voss; and brother-in-law, William Schaeffer.
