Obituary for Brian Earl Root

Brian Earl Root of Vestaburg was born on December 23rd, 1955 in Lansing, to Richard Root and Lois Root (Taylor). He finished his final days on this Earth surrounded by family before succumbing to cancer on Friday May 5th, 2023, at Woodland Hospice House.

Brian graduated from Ithaca High School in 1974 and went on to join the U.S. Navy to become a jet engine mechanic. After being discharged he returned to Gratiot County. In his life Brain had many adventures including being a home builder, dairy farmer, commercial lawn care serviceman, and being the captain on a commercial fishing boat. At the time of retirement Brian was working as a Engineering Data Coordinator for Morbark in Winn. He also owned and operated Central Sportfishing Charters out of Manistee, MI.

Brian enjoyed fishing, hosting fish fries, hunting, and most of all he enjoyed sharing life with his family and friends. Brian is survived by his caring, loving, high school sweetheart and wife Linda. Also daughters Andrea Root, Corey (Dannon) Alspaugh and sons Anthony Root, Ryan (Jenny) Mallory; sister Nancy (Tom) Wideman. He was also thankful for the three grandchildren he has: Mykah, Devin and Elijah. Brian was blessed with a multitude of friends and extended family members.

Brian was preceded in death by his father and mother Richard and Lois Root.

A celebration in honor of Brian’s life will be held at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Friday, May 12th, at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until the service time. Jeans are encouraged and be sure to bring lots of memories and stories.
