Hinmon, Bruce Smith, age 81, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2019, at his home surrounded by his family.
Funeral Services for Bruce will be held at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Owen White-Pigeon officiating. The family will receive friends at 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.
Bruce was born on August 17, 1937, in Kalamazoo, the son of August and Melinda (Pontiac) Hinmon. He married Vera Haveman on February 17, 1979, in Dollar Settlement, MI. Bruce earned an Associate’s Degree in substance abuse counseling. He was a court administrator for the Little Traverse Bay Band of Ottawa Indians. He previously was an associate judge for the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe for nine years. He also was the substance abuse director first for the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe and then the Little Traverse Bay Band of Ottawa Indians.
Bruce was a very spiritual Christian and a proud member of the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians. He played and collected guitars. Bruce loved the Detroit Lions and Tigers, his 1956 Buick Super and spending time with his family.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Vera Hinmon of Mt. Pleasant; children, Carolyn (Scott) Akiyama of Shepherd, Anita Hinmon of Mt. Pleasant, Pamela Johnson of Manistee, Bethany Hinmon (Kendall Kingbird) of Mt. Pleasant, Carole (Jason) VanLiew of Saginaw, Susan (Richard) Bigford of Weidman, Kimberly Hinmon (Miguel Sanchez) of Mt. Pleasant, and Derek (Rebecca) Cook of Midland; grandchildren, Kristin (Lance), Mitchell (Julie), Holly (Gabe), Harmony (David), Richard, Rachel, Simone, Kaylee, Mark, Tyler, Sebastian “Niijii” (Morgan), Angelica, Benjamin, Keaton, Kyla, Kolton, Cameron, Izabelle and Emma; great-grandchildren, Caitlyn, Jayden, Taylor, Erica, Novalee and Kira; sister, Celia (Jim) Osawabine of Mt. Pleasant; and many nieces and nephews.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Stella Jean Hinmon and Cathleen Johnson; son, Bruce S. Hinmon, Jr.; sisters, Wanita Jackson, Maryann Green, Opal Ramsey, Beatrice Hale and Violet Zeeryp; and brothers, James Green, Sr., David Hinmon, Robert Hinmon, Leroy Hinmon and Thomas Green.
