Obituary for Catherine Carolyn Cairns
Cairns, Catherine Carolyn, age 82, of Rosebush, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, November 13, 2021 at McLaren Central Michigan in Mt Pleasant. Catherine, known to all as Katie, was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend.
A Memorial Service for Katie will be held at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at 11 a.m. with Benjamen Evers officiating. Immediately following the service, burial of ashes will take place at Woodland Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at Mt. Pleasant Eagles #4463. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.
She was born on August 2, 1939, in Mt Pleasant, Michigan, the daughter of Leo and Loretta (McElhaney) Allen. Katie was a graduate of M.J. Murphy Beauty College. She retired from CMU after working for decades in the food service industry within the dining halls.
She married Ronald Cairns on April 13, 1972. Together they enjoyed traveling with their friends, nieces and nephews and grandchildren. He preceded her in death on July 24, 1999.
Katie spent many years enjoying golfing and bowling on leagues where she established lifelong friendships. She held memberships to several social clubs like the Moose Lodge, Eagles Club and the American Legion. While she hosted her family each holiday, many favored her annual July 4th cookout. She spent most days with her great-grandchildren playing games and passing down family stories and recipes. She will be remembered for her selflessness, compassion and generosity. She will truly be missed by those that loved her, as she was treasured by her family.
Catherine is survived by her brother Ray (Pat) Faber of Mecosta; sister Barbara Louiselle of Paris; and sister-in-law Diane McPherson of Roscommon; daughter Rhonda Cairns of Bay City; nieces and nephews Rusty Bordine, Steve Bordine, D.J. Louiselle; Brian Spate; Mike Spate; Shannon Spate of Rising Star, TX; Lori Meyer, Mark (Alice) Meyer, great nephews Novi, Christopher, Joseph; great niece Sarah; grandchildren Catherine “K.T.” (Lacey) Mandoka of Rosebush, Nicole Bouchard (Lloyd Rulapaugh) of Mt. Pleasant, Caroline Bouchard of Mt. Pleasant; great-grandchildren Chloe Danielski, Mackenzie Fuller, Annie King, Kendall Markert, Cameron Beebe, Carmen Gonzales, Lillian Volz;
Catherine was preceded in death by her mother Loretta Woodin; her father Leo Allen; husband Ronald Cairns; sister Madonna Meyer; and nephew Ray Bordine.
