Obituary for Charlie Karl Loehr

Charlie Karl Loehr, age 82, of Lake, Michigan, passed away on July 20, 2022. He was born in Ypsilanti, Michigan, on May 14, 1940, to the late Henry and Muriel (Ladner) Loehr.

Beloved husband for over 60 years to Dianne Loehr. Loving father of Colleen (Craig) Ammon of Georgia and Karl Loehr. Cherished grandfather of Joey (Laura), Andrew (Jenna), Josh, Lizzie, and Kaycee; and great-grandfather of Holly, Teddy, Hazel, and Annie. Brother of Paula Loehr-Coleman of California and the late Edward Loehr, and uncle to several nieces and nephews.

Charlie will be remembered for being soft spoken, kind, and a dear friend to many. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his beloved grandchildren. He had a passion for taking family photographs and researching genealogy. Charlie loved to talk about his 1953 childhood trip to Germany with his father to visit the Loehr family. He was also proud of winning the Detroit Soap Box derby when he was 12. His highlight being the time spent with his father building the race car. Charlie loved watching hockey and the Red Wings. He had many stories as an Olympia usher and locker-room attendant for Red Wing games, concerts and events from 1967-1979. Watching hockey games was something Charlie did to the very end of his life. An accountant by profession, he advanced to Corporate Controller for Commercial Steel Treating Corporation. Above all, Charlie adored his wife Dianne whom he met in kindergarten when she came up to him and straightened his suspenders. He knew instantly he would marry her, and they would spend a lifetime together. They spent many years traveling “up north” every weekend which led them to eventually retire and build a home where he would spend the final 20 years of his life.
