Obituary for David DeLaCruz
David DeLaCruz, age 61, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2024, under the care of Heartland Hospice.
Funeral Services for David will be held at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Monday, January 8, 2024, at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday beginning at 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.
David was born on July 24, 1962, in Crystal City, TX, son of Santos and Maria (Carmona) DeLaCruz. He married the love of his life and childhood sweetheart since the age of 15, Joni Lee Slavik on October 22, 1989. David was a patient and member of the Huntington's Disease Society of America. He enjoyed going to parks, nature walks, fishing, going to the movies and casinos, and traveling with family. David was a great and loving father, even to others. He was a hard worker, helpful to anyone in his family, loved Mexican music, and was a heck of good dancer. Even while struggling with his illness, David always put others first and was a one-of-a-kind person. He will be remembered by his family and friends as being a light in the darkness.
David is survived by his wife of 34 years, Joni DeLaCruz; children, Clara Vela, David Andrew DeLaCruz-Slavik, Jamiell Slavik, Annamarie Slavik, and Syanna DeLaCruz; six grandchildren, Amaya, Aliyah, Alaina, Davina, Joshua, and Miracle; brothers, Richard, Santos, and Mario DeLaCruz; sister, Clara DeLaCruz; and many nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Danny, Able, Lupe, George, Oscar, Rudolfo; and niece Arthina.
