Obituary for Don Carlyle Rust
RUST, DON CARLYLE, age 88, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Monday, November 21, 2022, at McLaren Bay Region in Bay City.
A Memorial Service for Don will be held at Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Central Michigan on December 10, 2022, at 1 p.m. The family will receive friends beginning at 12 p.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the church. Envelopes will be available at the church.
Don was born March 1, 1934, in Rising Sun, Indiana, the son of Howard and Kathryn (Ross) Rust. He worked in data processing as a Data Systems Analyst for the State of Michigan and continued working in that field for Broward County, Florida until retirement. Don married Sharon (Myers) Gorby on January 18, 1978, in East Lansing. He was an avid reader and stamp collector. Don enjoyed traveling and visiting casinos. He had a passion for writing and wrote many articles for Hub Pages. Don was a member of Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Central Michigan.
Don is survived by his wife Sharon Rust of Mt. Pleasant; children John Rust of Lansing, Jerald Rust of Lansing, Tom (Michelle) Gorby of St. Johns, John Gorby of Portland; daughter-in-law Carol Rust of Lansing; 5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; brothers Howard (Charlene) Rust of Beaverton, OR and Carl (Robin) Rust of Elkhart, IN; sister Karen Jarvis of Lima, OH; sister-in-law Joanne Myers of Grand Ledge; and many nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; son Don Rust, II; and brother John Rust.
