Don Linton’s spirit returned to Jehovah God after a long illness. He died at home July 31, 2019, with his wife, Ruth, by his side. He was born August 20, 1942 to Luella (Palmer) and Elwood Donald Linton. He grew up in Detroit, where, as a youth, he was a paperboy for a Detroit newspaper.
A graduate of Cody High School and Washtenaw Community College, Don went on to serve in the Navy from 1960-66 on the USS Beattie (Bay of Pigs).
Mr. Linton was employed by IBM. He married Ruth Fitzpatrick and retired to Houghton Lake in 1991 where he was employed part time at Oliver House of Carpet.
Don was treasurer for and active in many local organizations. He loved snowmobiling locally and in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. He was one of the founders of the Houghton Lake Trailblazers.
Don always will be remembered as a loving, laid-back, easy-going person. He loved his children and grandchildren, drinking coffee and eating M&M Peanuts, taking care of his home and yard, computers, and helping others. He also enjoyed trolling for fish and going on snowmobile trips with his many friends.
Surviving are his wife of 28 years, Ruth, and their fur baby, Abby.
Also surviving are his children from a previous marriage, Denise Nelson and Michael Linton; grandchildren, Austin Nelson, Chelsea Schoenmaker, Lance Carter, and Alexis, Darren and Jeanna Linton; and one great-grandchild, Kinney Schoenmaker.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Mary Linton who died at birth; and a son, Donnie Linton.
There will be a graveside service at a later date.
