Obituary for Dorothy Ilene Cunningham
Dorothy Ilene Cunningham (Keehn), age 97, of Mount Pleasant passed away Saturday, February 25, 2023 at Green Acres assisted living.
A private service will be held by the family.
Dorothy was born in Marion Michigan on August 27, 1925. The daughter of Martin and Mary (Deits) Keehn.
She received her registered nursing degree and worked at Hurley Hospital in Flint Michigan.
While growing up she enjoyed playing tennis and basketball (back then girls wore skirts and played on a half court). Later she enjoyed reading, knitting, needle point and watching sports, both professional and college.
Dorothy loved animals and adopted several dogs and cats over the years. She lived in a home adjacent to the woods where deer, owls, birds, raccoons, and a woodchuck kept her entertained on a daily basis. She also spent many years volunteering at the thrift store.
Dorothy was lucky to have lived and traveled internationally over the years while raising her four children. Countries included Brazil, Argentina, Germany, England, and other European nations.
Dorothy is survived by her sister Phyllis Crowe, her children Lesli (John) Weber, Mary Panco, Richard (Donna) Cunningham, Julie Cunningham, grandchildren Jedediah Beaman, Sean Panco, Emily Panco, Connor Cunningham, Nicole (Caleb) Gekeler, and Shepard Cunningham.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Shirley Schnieder and the children’s father Alex Cunningham.
Memorial contributions can be made to H.A.T.S. (Humane Animal Treatment Society) in Mt Pleasant.
