Obituary for Edward George Berthold
Edward George Berthold, age 87, of Mt. Pleasant, MI passed away Sunday, December 3rd , 2023.
Funeral Services for Edward will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mt. Pleasant on Friday, December 8, 2023, at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 7, 2023, from 4-6 p.m. at Clark Family Funeral Chapel. Visitation will continue the day of the funeral from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church Endowment Fund or Clarke Historical Library. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel and the church.
Edward was born on February 22, 1936, in Defiance, OH, the son of Michael and Florence (Goldenetz) Berthold. He was a Charter Member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Mt. Pleasant. He enjoyed caring for the building and beautiful landscaped grounds as well as serving the church family. He was a dedicated member of the Mid-Michigan Wood Crafters where he practiced his lifelong love of woodworking passed down from his father. Edward played piano and enjoyed beautiful music, often whistling a tune wherever he ventured. When not gardening, he had many interests including traveling, camping, and exploring the United States and Canada where he enjoyed visiting historic sites and museums along the way including State and National Parks. Edward always enjoyed teaching others and spending time with all his family, children, and grandchildren.
Edward is survived by his wife of 65 years, Bonnie Berthold of Mt. Pleasant; son Timothy Berthold of Parker, CO; daughter Susan Karnes of Rockford, MI; son Mark (Jenny) Berthold of Arvada, CO; daughter Cynthia Hopkins Berthold of Mt Pleasant, MI; grandchildren Brahm, Bryce, Brent, Collin, Kendall (Nils), Brooke (Ethen), Marcus, Michael (Samantha), Andrew, Cameron (Bailee); and sister Mickey Jaschek of Eugene, OR.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law Georg Jaschek; and son-in-law Kenneth Karnes.
