Obituary for Edward H. Kalis

Edward H. Kalis, age 73, of Winn, Michigan passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, August 5, 2021. Ed was born February 3,1948 to Edward A. and Bessie (Jones) Kalis in Mt. Pleasant. Ed graduated from Blanchard High School in 1966. He went on to serve in the Air Force from 1967-1971. It was during his service to our country when he met his wife Shirley and was married in 1968.

Upon discharge, Ed returned to the Winn, Michigan area and began his lifelong farming career. Ed will also be remembered for his trucking, one year delivering the Oklahoma State Christmas Tree. Ed also served his community on the founding board of the Fremont-Deerfield Fire Department, the board of First Bank for 15 years, and the Isabella County Commission for four years. He was also a member of Coomer Church. Family and friends will remember Ed for his hearty laugh, stories, generous spirit, and love of farm auctions. Ed’s greatest passion was aviation, and his cherished Cessna Skymaster airplane.

Ed is survived by his wife, Shirley (Erion) Kalis, sons Edward M. (Dawn) Kalis, Jason Kalis, Jonathan (Misty) Kalis, and Arthur Wilbur (Kami Peer), along with grandchildren Ryan (Meaghan), Benjamin, Nicole, Kyle, Isaiah, Jonathan, Samantha, Elinora, Brant, Braxton and Michael, and great grandson Zane. Ed is also survived by sisters Nancy (Bert) Fodor, Dixie (Jack) Hegenauer, in-laws Sharon Wipf, Susan (Don) Kinsley, Sandra Matehs; along with many nephews, nieces, and cousins. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, sister Julia (Myron) Esch, grandson Andrew, brothers-in-law Verlyn Wipf, Kenneth Matehs, and William Erion.

Funeral Services for Ed will be held at 11am on Tuesday, August 10th at Clark Family Funeral Chapel in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Larry Wonsey and Pastor Jason Kalis officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Union Cemetery. Following the burial, a luncheon will take place at Blanchard Millpond Park. Ed’s family will receive visitors on Sunday, August 8, from 2-4 p.m. and on Monday, August 9, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Pleasant EAA Chapter #907 (Experimental Aircraft Association). Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.
