Eileen Rau, 95, of Mt. Pleasant passed away March 30, 2023.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 14, 2023, at Sacred Heart Church in Mt. Pleasant with Father Bill Rutkowski presiding. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Beal City. After the services, a luncheon will be served at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Beal City.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 13, 2023, from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Clark Family Funeral Chapel. A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday, April 14, at the church, one hour prior to Mass.
Eileen was born on November 8, 1927, in Isabella County, the daughter of Joseph and Edna (Salchert) McDonald. Eileen was raised in Mt. Pleasant and graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School. She married Stephen Rau on April 12, 1947, at Sacred Heart Church in Mt. Pleasant. Eileen was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish and was very involved in the community. She had a special interest in working with organizations that benefited children and the elderly. After 25 years of service, she retired from the Mt. Pleasant Regional Center. After her retirement, she served as a Guardian/Conservator for the Isabella County Probate Court and the Central Michigan Guardianship. Eileen served as a board member and Chairman of the Board for the Isabella County Medical Care Facility and the Isabella County Social Services Committee for over 20 years where she presided over many renovations and improvements to the facility.
Eileen is survived by her four children Joseph Rau of Ravenna, Marjorie Roberts of Los Angeles, Bill (Lea Ann) Rau of Mt. Pleasant and Mary Kay Rau of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren Christopher (Robin) Rau of St. Johns, Kevin (Kathleen) Rau of Mt. Pleasant and Kyle Rau (Jamie Bailer)of Coleman, Craig Rau of Kinross, Michael (Erica) Roberts of Downey, CA and Sarah Roberts (Craig Robinson) of Gladstone, OR; great-grandchildren Alex Rau, Tyson, Taya and Charles Coles, Luke Rau, Jordan Rau (Justine Prill), Zoey and Logan Mishler, Violet, Lily and Logan Roberts, Sutter and Grady Robinson, Camden, Aubree and Bristol Rau, Josie and Jolene Rau; sisters-in-law Kay McDonald of Beal City, Mary Irene (Fred) Zeien of Beal City, Gert Brownlee of Sanford, Edna “Doll” Rau of Beal City and Patricia Rau of Beal City and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Steve; sisters Marguerite Rice and Bobbie Oplinger, brother Edward; son-in-law Phillip Roberts; and in-laws Rodrick Rice, Earl Oplinger, Harold and Edna Rau, Walter Rau, Raymond and Sally Rau, Richard and Rosemarie Funnell, Ted Brownlee, Norman Rau, Donald and Gaye Rau, Dale and Margaret Noble.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph the Worker School or the Cemetery Fund at St. Joseph Church in Beal City. Envelopes are available at the funeral chapel.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility for providing the best possible care. In addition, we would like to thank Dr. Jose Fuentes, Dr. Abraham Krepostman, Dr. Larry Taylor and their staff for the many years of care they provided.
