Obituary for Ethel J. Gallagher
Ethel J. Gallagher died peacefully Sunday, May 2, 2021.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Ethel will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 8, 2021, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Don Henkes officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. A luncheon will be held following interment at STIR Craft Cocktails (4855 E Bluegrass Rd. Mt. Pleasant, MI) The family will receive friends for visitation from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday May 8, 2021, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Ethel was born on May 6, 1931, in Ubly, Michigan to Theodore and Susan Geboski. Ethel graduated from Ubly High School where she was named Valedictorian of her class and also Senior Class President. She received a varsity letter for basketball, played the tuba in the school band and was a cheerleader. Ethel graduated from the Mercy School of Nursing first in her class and was the recipient of the Lucy Gamble Award. She was a Registered Nurse in Public Health for the Detroit Health Department. In 1981, she earned a master’s degree from Central Michigan University in Experimental Psychology. Ethel was a Master Gardener, an enthusiastic participant in floral arranging competitions and a member of The Questors. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed traveling including trips to China, Greece and many other countries. She married Byron P. Gallagher in 1955.
Ethel was predeceased by her husband Byron, parents Theodore and Susan; daughter Maria Dietz; sisters Evelyn Burkhart and Margaret Miller; and brother James Geboski.
Ethel is survived by her children Marjorie Basile (Andrew) of Birmingham, Kathleen Mellon (James) of Bloomfield Hills, Lisbeth Nolde (Brent) of Naples Florida, Laurie Altman (Lawrence) of Austin Texas and Byron P. Gallagher, Jr. (Michelle) of East Lansing; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sister Norma Buroff; and brother Ted Geboski.
Ethel will always be remembered for her enthusiasm for life and her loyalty and kindness to family and friends.
A celebration of Ethel’s life will be held in August.
Memorial donations may be made to Art Reach of Mid-Michigan or the Veterans Memorial Library. Envelopes will be available at the church and Clark Family Funeral Chapel.
