Eva (Maar) Martin, age 103 of Durand, Michigan, passed away on December 7, 2023, at Crestwood Village Assisted Living in Mt. Pleasant. Eva was born on June 5, 1920, the daughter of Paul and Mary (Jagos) Mrakava. That was the year that women won the right to vote. Woodrow Wilson was the president and she lived through 18 different presidents in office. She was a homemaker, a lifelong Detroit Tiger’s fan and she loved playing bingo and going to the casino. She married Charles Maar and they had four daughters, Jean, Janet, Joyce and Joan. After his death she was remarried to James Martin of Lennon, Michigan.

Eva is survived by her children, Jean McDonald of Haslett, Janet Strickler of Mt. Pleasant and Joni Maar (Mac Wolfe) of Lansing, grandchildren James Nietzke of Mt. Pleasant, Joneil Cook (William) of Mt. Pleasant, Jenny Thomas of Navarre, Florida, Colin McDonald of Charleston, SC, Shoshannah McDonald of Haslett, Kerry Strickler of Traverse City, Kathy Strickler of Moscow, ID, William Strickler of Mt. Pleasant, and Lee Strickler (Travis Sagrillo) of Louisville, CO, seven great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren and special friend Irene Wyrick of Byron.

Eva was preceded in death by her parents, husband’s Charles Maar and James Martin, all five of her siblings Anna Drake, Frank Mrakava, Lillian Zemek, Mary Davis and Pauline Rusnak, daughter Joyce Maar Barthel, grandson Ben VanDusen, and great granddaughter Sadie Grace McDonald.
