Obituary for Gerald Arnold LaPorte
Gerald “Jerry” Arnold LaPorte age 80 of Lake George, Michigan passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Tuesday, October 24, 2023. Gerald was born November 25, 1942
In Flint, Michigan the son of Arnold Lawrence LaPorte and Bernice M. (Sova) LaPorte. Jerry
graduated from St. Mary’s High School, Flint, Michigan in 1960. Gerald was united in marriage to Ms. Nancy R. Gardner on July 16, 1977, in Flint.
Mr. LaPorte had resided in Lake George since 2003, moving from Lennon, Michigan. Jerry retired from AC Delco as a job setter after thirty-eight years of dedicated service. After his retirement, Jerry went to work at Lowe’s of Flint. He also spent several winters at Snow Snake Ski and Golf of Harrison as a chairlift operator and many summers working for Central Michigan construction. Jerry utilized his free time fishing, yearly trips to Canada for two weeks on fishing expeditions, working in his yard, cooking, and baking his famous pies, listening to different genres of Celtic music, watching old television series, Bar Rescue episodes and reading western themed books. Jerry was an avid fan of Detroit Lions and University of Michigan football. His Greatest love and pride moments were spending time with his family.
Surviving Mr. LaPorte is his loving wife of forty-six years, Mrs. Nancy R. LaPorte of Lake George, four Children; Cheryl LaPorte of Atlanta, Michigan, Steven LaPorte of Atlanta, Tracey LaPorte and wife Crystal also of Atlanta and Kym Gohn and husband Doug of Midland, Michigan, six grandchildren; Chelsea, Camille, Travis, Abbey, Jaxyn and Quinn, one brother David LaPorte and wife Monica of Potterville, Michigan, close friend and fishing buddy, Tim Cassady of Davison, Michigan, plus many nieces and nephews and extended family members. Mr. LaPorte was preceded in death by his parents one sister, Barb Boros and one brother, Richard LaPorte.
