Obituary for Gerald Francis Merchand
Gerald Francis Merchand, age 84, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Woodland Hospice House surrounded by loved ones.
Per Gerald’s wishes cremation has taken place at Daisy Hill Crematory and a Rite of Committal will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant in spring of 2024.
Gerald was born in Mt. Pleasant, on July 27, 1939, the son of the late Victor and Karoline (Kriesche) Merchand. He attended and graduated from Mt. Pleasant Public Schools. Gerald worked maintenance for various hotels in St. Ignace, MI. He always loved the outdoors, where he could enjoy wildlife, hunt, fish, garden and spend time on his tractor.
Gerald is survived by his children, Jerry (Cindy) Merchand of SC, Bob (Barb) Merchand of Hessel, Ted Merchand, of Mt. Pleasant, Victoria (Chris) Murphy, of Mt. Pleasant, Madonna (Bill) Garret, of Weidman and Malissa (Delbert) Garrett of Weidman; 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 8 siblings, and many nieces and nephews.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Joseph Merchand; sister, Karolyn “Katy” Merchand; and former wife and close friend, Gayla Merchand.
