Obituary for Gerald Richard Watson

Gerald Richard Watson of Mt. Pleasant died on 2-18-23 at home. He was born on 1-05-1945 in Mt. Pleasant to Gerald and Mary (Lesh) Watson. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 6-1963. He attended Ferris State University and graduated on 6-19-1966 with an Associate Applied Science Degree in 3 areas.

During the Vietnam War he enlisted in the Army where he achieved the rank of Sergeant and served in the Army Security Agency in Okinawa, in New Jersey at Fort Monmouth as an instructor, and then in Germany. He was honorably discharged on 1-07-1973. After serving his country, he was employed as an Audiovisual Technician at Central Michigan University for over 20 years. He was a kind and thoughtful individual and willing to help others. He loved cats and had many during his lifetime.

He is survived by his sister Cecelia Askegard of Dewitt; nephew Scott (Caroline) Askegard of New York, N.Y., nieces Cherie (Brent) Sussman of Peachtree City, GA and Marci (David) DeWitt of Columbia, SC; great-nephews Joshua and Jonah Sussman of Peachtree, GA, Jacob Sussman of Atlanta, GA and great-nieces Kathleen (Jonathon) Lohrmann of Hebron, KY, Emily (Derek) Scott of Brownsboro, AL and Sarah DeWitt of Forest, VA.

Those desiring may make donations to the Mt. Pleasant Area Community Foundation to the Gerald Watson Fund for H.A.T.S. (Humane Animal Treatment Society).

Funeral Services will be held on Friday March 3, 2023, at 1 P.M. at the Memorial Gardens Cemetery Chapel in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Jonathan Bakker of Zion Lutheran Church officiating.
