Obituary for Geraldine May Wirtanen (Martin)
Geraldine May Wirtanen age 94 of rural Harrison, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at The Horizon Senior Living of Gladwin, Michigan. Geraldine was born May 10, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan the daughter of John and Elsie Martin. Geraldine had resided in Harrison since 1976, moving from Detroit, Michigan. Geraldine was united in marriage to Mr. Dale Monroe Walter on August 29, 2012 in Buffalo, New York.
Geraldine attended Gladwin Assembly of God Church, Gladwin, where she enjoyed worshiping her God as well as spending time with her church family. During World War II, Geraldine was a Rosie the Riveter, working in the administrative offices. Geraldine enjoyed cooking, baking her “famous apple pies” crocheting, cleaning and caring for her home and loving all who she came in contact with, as she was a very social and lovable kind soul.
Surviving Geraldine is her husband of nine years, Mr. Dale Monroe Walter of Harrison, three loving nieces: Lisa, Gerry Lynn and Linda, plus many friends and neighbors. Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Frank Gordon Wirtanen Jr. three siblings: Gloria, Caroline and John “Jack” Martin.
Celebration of Life service honoring Geraldine will be held Monday, August 8, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. from Gladwin Assembly of God Church, 3400 Buzzell Road, Gladwin, Michigan, 48624 with Pastor Brad Withrow officiating. Inurnment was in Hamilton Township Cemetery, Harrison. Memorial gifts in memory of Geraldine may be considered to: Mr. Dale Monroe Walter.
