Obituary for Helen Christine Torpey
TORPEY, HELEN, age 86, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Monday, February 1, 2021, at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility.
A Memorial Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Friday, February 5, 2021 at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Envelopes will be available at the church and Clark Family Funeral Chapel.
Helen was born February 4, 1934, the daughter of Phillip and Lillian (Schupbach) Kullman. She
graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School with the class of 1951. Helen met the love of her life, Hilton Torpey when she was 7. They married on July 21, 1956. Helen and Hilton would have been married for 65 years come this July. She always enjoyed her and Hilton’s anniversary trip to Mackinaw City. Helen worked many jobs in her life, including at her Grandfather’s restaurant, the Roosevelt Refinery, Leonard’s Refinery, Central Michigan University, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Union Rotary and Community Mental Health for Central Michigan. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially watching them play sports and Joey race. Helen enjoyed word searches, doing puzzles, reading, playing cards and assisting Hilton with yard work. She was a gentle, kind and sweet hearted lady. Helen spent her life taking care of others. She was incredibly selfless.
Helen is survived by her husband: Hilton; children: Kathy (Gregg) Talbert, Tom (Sarah) Torpey, Chris (Renee) Torpey and Sheila Torpey Burch; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; siblings: Barb (Lynn) Struble, Raymond “PeeWee” (Sue) Kullman, Betty (Larry) Snider, Mary Davidson and Robert (Sandy) Kullman; and many nieces and nephews.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Phillip, LeRoy and Alvin; sister: Rosie and son-in-law: Joe Burch II.
