Obituary for Hilde Vernon
Vernon, Hilde 1939-2024
Hilde went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Jan. 21, after living, sometimes painfully, sometimes joyfully, with cancer in hospice care since January 2023. She was 84.
Born in Kassel, Germany to Bertl and Karl Grieser, at the beginning of World War II, she was third of four daughters. She met her husband, Raymond, in 1960 and immigrated to New York City in 1961. They married in 1963 and settled in Mount Pleasant, Mich. A dedicated mother and homemaker, Hilde was also known for cultivating their large, corner yard at River and Meridian and sharing her landscaping skills with Mount Pleasant Community Church in the 1980s and 90s. In later years Hilde and Ray worshiped at First Church of the Nazarene in Mount Pleasant. Hilde loved to share hospitality, to travel with family, and she nurtured her three children, and later her grandchildren, in all their pursuits.
Predeceased by two sisters and her son, Jeff, Hilde is mourned by Ray, her husband of 60 years; sister, Heidi; children, Scott (Alissa) and Sister Jaira; grandchildren, Gideon, Hannah, and Daniel; and many friends and sisters and brothers in the faith.
Funeral Services for Hilde will be held on Sat. Jan. 27 at 11 a.m., First Church of the Nazarene. Greet the family at 10 a.m. A luncheon will immediately follow in the church gym.
