Obituary for Hildegard Mary Machuta
MACHUTA, HILDEGARD MARY, age 84, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Friday, March 8, 2024, at her home, with her daughter Marcy and her son-in-law Jim by her side.
Hilda was born May 12, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Lorenz and Mary (Heubeck) Stachelscheid. She worked for CMU for 23 years, retiring from the Financial Aid Department in 2002. Hilda was a genuine German; she always enjoyed German cuisine and polka music. She enjoyed camping, Jimmy Buffett, and spending lots of time at arts/crafts sales. Traveling with friends to her home in Scottsdale, Arizona brought her great memories and healing after the death of her son, Mark.
Hilda is survived by her daughter Marcelyn (James) Carney of Mt. Pleasant; son Scott Machuta; grandsons James W. (Holly) Carney of Mt. Pleasant, veteran USMC SGT Benjamin J. Carney and significant other Carley Henry of Boulder, CO; great-granddaughter Tulsa Layne Carney; niece Patty Mulder of Elsie; nephew Ken Sperl of Ohio; and special friends Delores (Cecil) Kesson of Long Lake, Julia (Paul) Jarman-Eubanks and their daughters Evynn and Grace of Phoenix, AZ, and Becky (Jim) Hynes of Shepherd.
Hilda was preceded in death by her parents; beloved son Mark Machuta, infant daughter Mary Sue Machuta; and brother John (Margaret) Sperl.
A Memorial Service for Hilda will take place at 12 noon on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Clark Family Funeral Chapel. Hilda’s favorite color was purple; the family is requesting anyone attending services to wear purple in honor of Hilda’s life. A luncheon will immediately follow in Reflections Reception Center. The family will receive friends beginning at 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105 or Lymphoma Research Foundation, Wall Street Plaza, 88 Pine Street, Suite 2400, New York, NY 10005. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.
