Obituary for Jack Duane Howe

Jack Duane Howe, Jr. of Harrison, formerly of Howell, Michigan, passed away July 26 at Mid-Michigan Medical Center in Midland.
He is survived by his wife, Lorene; sons James (Deanna) Howe and John (Susan) Howe; daughter Jaci (Allen) Kastle; step children Carrie (Mike) Davidson and Jim Michaels; grandchildren Chelsea (Brandon) Withey, Kailey (Steve) McGinty, Daylon Howe, Alyssa (Nick) Tape, Katie Howe, Ryan Howe, Conor (Bri) Ruggles, seven great grand children and sister Cindy (Peter) Kalogeropoulos.
Jack was a journeyman pressman, beginning his career at the Livingston County Press in Howell, and working at both The Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News over his long career. A member of the Graphic Communications Union 13N, Jack served as union president from 1992 until his retirement in 2003, and played an instrumental role during the Detroit newspaper strike.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather and union member, Jack was also the family storyteller, regaling family and friends with stories of picket lines and pranks, as well as family history.
A memorial luncheon to celebrate Jack’s life is planned for Saturday, September 11 at 1 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 3265 W. Grand River Road, Howell.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a favorite charity. Arrangements and care of Mr. Howe are entrusted with Stocking Funeral Home, Harrison (989)539-7810.
