Obituary for James Martin "Jim" Dennis
James “Jim” Martin Dennis, age 75, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2023 at My Michigan Hospital Gratiot.
Per Jim’s wishes, cremation has taken place at Daisy Hill Crematory. A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023, from 2-5 p.m. in the Reflections Reception Center in Clark Family Funeral Chapel. Memorial donations, in memory of Jim, may be made to the Central Michigan Area Concert Band of Shepherd MI.
Jim was born March 23, 1948, in Plainfield, New Jersey, the son of the late Robert and Olive Dennis. He is a graduate of Adrian Liberal Arts College of Adrian, MI, receiving his Bachelor of Arts. Jim managed the Schafer Clothing Store of Mt. Pleasant and went on to purchase the store and rename it RP Dennis and Sons Clothing Store. He owned RP Dennis and Sons for over 15 years. After closing the clothing store, Jim started selling real estate in the Central Michigan area, then went on to become a mortgage lender, mortgage broker and courier for Isabella Bank. Jim was also a piano tuner. He married Susan McTaggart in March of 1991 in Mt. Pleasant. Jim was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Lions Club. Jim loved to observe the antics of the squirrels in his back yard. He gave them names and fed them well. He was also an avid birdwatcher and “feeder”.
Music was a vital part of Jim’s life. He was a member of the Central Michigan Concert Band for over 40 years, the Saginaw Eddy Band, the Clare Gateway Band, and sang in the Midland Center for the Arts Choral Society. Playing the Trombone gave him great joy.
Jim is survived by his wife of 32 years: Susan McTaggart-Dennis of Mt. Pleasant; step-children: Andrea Jarman-Kistler of Mt. Pleasant and Eric (Scott Brigham) Jarman of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren: Nathan Kistler of Chicago, IL and Allison Kistler of Wellington, CO.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, brother: Robert Paul Dennis II; and close cousin: Mary Finnegan.
