Obituary for James Milne Witbeck

WITBECK, JAMES MILNE, age 96, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at Medilodge of Capital Area.

Funeral Services for Milne will be held at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at 11 a.m. with Jenny Connelly and Greg Harger officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow in the Reflections Reception Center. Burial will take place in Highland Cemetery in Osceola County with Mark Peters officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral chapel.

Milne was born April 22, 1926, in Evart, Michigan, the son of William and Helen (Burdick) Witbeck. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. Milne served in the ministry until he met and married Marilyn Haut on October 2, 1965, in Midland. He was a cabinet maker and was co-owner of House of Cabinets in Mt. Pleasant. Milne loved nature; fishing and deer hunting were his favorite outdoor activities. In his younger years, he made his own bows for bow hunting. He was a talented gardener, singer, piano player, and storyteller. He also enjoyed making soup, applesauce and fried fish for friends and family. Milne was an elder in his home church for many years. He was a kind and loving husband, father and grandpa who enjoyed living at home with his wife until age 95.

Milne is survived by his wife, Marilyn Witbeck; daughters, Mary (Mike) Rogers of Schoolcraft, Jami (Bob) Jones of Brighton; grandchildren Rachel (Nick) Minard of Grand Rapids, Vivian Jones and Lilliana Jones of Brighton; brother Dick Witbeck of Evart; sisters Mamie (Gus) Brendahl and Muriel Walton, both of Chesaning; sister-in-laws Delfina Witbeck of California, Rosie Witbeck of Indiana.

Milne was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Tom, Marv, Bill, and Ted Witbeck; sisters Josephine Grifee, Esther Spencer; brother-in-laws Glen Spencer, Walt Walton, Marshall Grifee; sister-in-laws, Bernita Witbeck, Ilabelle Witbeck, and Dorothy Witbeck.
