Obituary for Jan Walter "Buzz" Meyer

MEYER, JAN WALTER “BUZZ”, age 80, of Blanchard, formerly of Gibraltar and Rockwood, passed away at his home on Monday, March 8, 2021.

Cremation will take place at Daisy Hill Crematory in Mt. Pleasant and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to a cancer charity of the donor’s choice.

Buzz was born November 16, 1940, in Roxbury, MA, the son of John and Marie (Gatt) Meyer of Gibraltar, MI. He was a graduate of Trenton High School with the class of 1959. Buzz worked for Gibraltar Police Department from 1962-1990, serving in many capacities and retired as chief of police. He also worked as a City Inspector in South Rockwood, MI. He was a member of Blanchard American Legion, and the P.O.L.C. After retirement, Buzz worked in real estate and was a bailiff for Wayne County. He liked watching Michigan sports, especially U of M. Golf was his favorite past time, golfing almost daily. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and buddies. He will be greatly missed by his children; he was their rock.

Buzz is survived by his children: Jon Meyer of Blanchard, Judy (Martin) Rammel of Springboro, OH, Jann (Richard) Pennock of Blanchard, Jeffrey (Tammy) Meyer of Winn, Darrin (Jennifer) Meyer of Moran; step-children Chris Barker, Kimberly Stitt, and Aimee Condon; 30 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; brother Randolph Meyer; sisters Sandra Meyer, Misty (Chris) Willey; wife Barbara Meyer of Flatrock, MI; special friend Delores Raglin of Blanchard; and several nieces and nephews.

Buzz was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Geraldine Hughes and Judith Sabitini; brother Robert Meyer; daughter-in-law Colleen Meyer; and granddaughter Shawna Meyer.
