Obituary for Joann Ruth Heintz

Joann Ruth Heintz age 88 of Harrison passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 5, 2023 at Niche Aging of Clare. \

Joann was born October 13, 1935 in Alma, Michigan the daughter of Floydd Wilson and Donna Joy (Dexter) Wilson. Joann graduated from Farwell Area Schools in 1952. Joann furthered her education at Lansing Community College, Lansing and earned her Masters Degree from Central Michigan University. Joann was united in marriage to Mr. Donald C. Heintz on December 1, 1962 in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Mr. Heintz preceded Joann in death on June 23, 2012 after forty-nine years of marriage.

Mrs. Heintz had resided in Harrison since 1970, moving from Lansing. Early in her working career, Joann was employed with Lansing Community College for over seven years, and Harrison Community Schools for over seventeen years. Joann enjoyed spending time at the lake, traveling with her family, playing cards, gardening, and canning fish and vegetables.

Surviving Mrs. Heintz are her three children; Donna Ann Heintz of Seattle, Washington, Roy “Dwaine” Heintz and wife Beth of Michigan and Andrew “Dee” Heintz and wife Sharon of Harrison, eight grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, one sister, Mickey Anderson and husband Gary of Montrose, Michigan, two brothers; Duane Updyke and wife Elaine of Harrison and Mike Updyke and wife Marilyn of Farwell, two sisters-in-law; Joyce Blackledge of Clare and Diane Updyke of Sunfield, Michigan, plus many nieces, nephews and extended family. Mrs. Heintz was also preceded in death by her step-father, Grover “Dude” Updyke, her mother and three brothers; Eugene Blackledge, Gary Updyke and Donald Blackledge.

Celebration of Life services honoring Mrs. Heintz will be held Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. from Clark-Stocking Funeral Chapel and Cremation Service with family and friends officiating. A time of gathering will be held Tuesday, November 14, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. until time of service. Inurnment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery immediately following service. Memorial gifts in memory of Joann may be considered to: American Legion Post 404 of Harrison or Harrison Community Schools.
