Joanne Elaine Kennedy-Campbell, 91 of Mt. Pleasant, passed away at her home, with family by her side on Tuesday, June 14, 2022. Joanne was an accomplished pianist who also loved to knit, sew, play her banjo and spend time with her family.
Joanne grew up in Mt. Pleasant and was raised by her grandparents, Burrell & Millie Campbell. Joanne was a softball player that played for Mt Pleasant High School, and she graduated from MPHS in 1948. In the 1940’s she played piano in the trio band called WE 3. They played the popular Boogie-Woogie style music of the 40’s on the weekends at the Avalon Bar on Pickard St. And, on Sundays, she also played the piano at the First Church of Christ on Broadway.
After graduation, Joanne was a telephone operator at General Telephone in Mt. Pleasant. Over the years Joanne also worked at JoAnn Fabrics, and CMU. She retired from CMU in 1992. Joanne and her husband Max also owned and operated All Seasons Sports on Mission St. She also taught knitting through MP Community Education.
Joanne was a member of the Board of Directors of the Mitten Bay Girl Scout Council. She was a Girl Scout for over 50 years. She was a scout leader, camp director and she taught primitive camping before becoming a board member. She was also on the Board of Directors for the Commission on Aging in Isabella Co. for many years.
Joanne married Max E. Lovejoy on August 6, 1954. They had 2 children, Denise and Michael. Joanne & Max loved to travel and traveled 46 of the contiguous 48 US states, Mexico and all of the provinces of Canada. They did all their traveling on their motorcycle with their beloved friends LaVern & Ina Mae Philo.
Joanne was proceeded in death by her husband Max, her grandparents Burrell & Millie Campbell, her father Joseph Kennedy, her mother Mildred (Thrasher) Yoder and a sister-in-law Louise Kennedy.
Joanne is survived by her daughter, Denise (Michael) Holbrook, her son, Michael (Janice) Lovejoy, grandchildren, Angela (Tom) Castaldi, James (Courtney) Clark, Max W. (Caitlin) Lovejoy, Daniel (Kim) Holbrook, Jeffrey (Brooke) Holbrook, and Michael L. Holbrook. 17 great-grandchildren: Caiden, Andrew, Archer (Grace), Landon, Lincoln, Alexandra, Owen, Julia, Liam, Ellie, Michael, Lake, Tommy, Darby, Dominic, Lizzie and Graham. She is also survived by her sister Jeanne (Howard) Poll, her brother Michael Kennedy, and many nieces and nephews, and by her beloved grandpuppies: Gus, Coco, Zoey, Raven and Chase. Joanne is also survived by her very special friends: Becky & Dave Gilbert and Amy Steffke.
Services for Joanne will be held at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Friday, June 17 at 1 p.m. with Benjamen Evers officiating. Refreshments will follow in Reflections Reception Center. The Family will receive friends at the funeral chapel Thursday, June 16 from 4-8 p.m. and on Friday one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made at either the Isabella Co Commission on Aging or Humane Animal Treatment Society (HATS).
