Obituary for Joanne F. "Jody" Zolty (Jager)

Jody Zolty was a lovely wife, mother, grandmother, and true friend. She cared for others, more specifically children. Her primary career was to nurture the growth and development of children as a caregiver for other families. Those children are now adults and remain close to Jody. A true testament to her love.

Jody was born in Harvey, Illinois to Nicholas and Louise (Wade) Jager on February 27, 1942. She graduated from Mother of Sorrow High School in Chicago. Jody married Thaddeus (Ted) Zolty on July 10, 1965. In 1968, they moved to Mt. Pleasant, Michigan and Jody continued her education at Mid-Michigan Community College. Ted and Jody always felt Mt. Pleasant was their home and a wonderful place to raise their family.

Ted and Jody were married for 55 wonderful years. They were soulmates, always together enjoying and celebrating the goodness of everyday. They shared many common interests, including reading the morning newspaper (they had five delivered), keeping up with current events around the world, and reaching out to help others.

Both were proactive with their health and exercised daily. After Ted retired from Central Michigan University, they maintained membership at the SAC. They both valued friends and celebrated regularly sharing a good meal. Jody loved to be outside and kept a beautiful yard with many flower beds. Later she joined the exercise classes at Commission on Aging. Jody kept a regular schedule of long walks with friends sharing good conversations along the way. Most of all, she cherished being a mother and grandmother.

Left to cherish Jody’s memory are her sons, Carl Zolty of Cayucos, California and Bob Zolty of Bayview, California. Her siblings Pat (Fred) Peters of Merlin, Oregon, Bob (Linda) Jager of Grants Pass, Oregon, Jim (Gayle) Jager, of Springfield, TN, Joe Jager of Grants Pass, Oregon, and Mike Jager of Corvallis, Oregon. Grandchildren Zachary, Ashlen, and McKenna Zolty, and their mother Nikki, of Los Osos, California. Two nieces Cheryl Phillips of West Covina, California and Debbie Flynn of Tinley Park, Illinois, and her many friends.

A celebration of Jody’s life and friendship will be held at a later date. Jody’s wishes in lieu of flowers are donations to the Isabella Commission on Aging and Humane Animal Treatment Society of Mt. Pleasant, and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Jody’s family and friends would like to thank Comfort Care of Mt. Pleasant for their loving care and support of Jody.

May Jody's memory be a reminder to us all that connections are important and true friends are to be celebrated.
