Obituary for John Frank Brooks

John Frank Brooks age 89 of rural Harrison passed away Thursday, September 15, 2022 at MyMichigan Medical Center-Alma. John was born March 26, 1933 at the family homestead in Franklin Township, Clare County, Michigan, the son of Floyd L. Brooks and Hilda M. (Miller) Brooks. Soon after his high school graduation, John was drafted into the United States Army and honorably served his country during the Korean Conflict. John was united in marriage to the former Betty Lou Hund on July 6, 1957 in Hope Township, Midland, Michigan. Mrs. Brooks preceded John in death on August 26, 2019 after sixty-two years of marriage.
Mr. Brooks had resided in rural Clare County his entire lifetime. He retired from Brown Machine of Beaverton as a pipefitter after twenty-five years of dedicated service. John spent many years as a gentleman farmer and will be remembered for his passion of farming. John enjoyed woodworking, building birdfeeders, steelwork design and building, hunting, fishing reading farming magazines and listening and dancing to Polka music.
Surviving John are his four daughters; Darlene Brooks-Batson of Harrison, Laurie Schug and husband Gary of Gladwin, Lois Bruce and husband Steve of Elk Rapids, Michigan and Beth Weakland and husband Brian of Longs, South Carolina, two grandchildren; Johnathon Schug and Brandon Bruce, one step-granddaughter, Danika Slocum and husband Brandon, two step-great grandchildren; Emma and Alaina, one brother, Elwood Brooks of Harrison, four sisters in law: Joan Brooks of Harrison, Donna Maggard of Florida, Kathleen Merrill and husband Gary of Coleman, Michigan and Chris Brooks of Durand, Michigan, many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. John was also preceded in death by his parents, his son, James Jay Brooks, son in law, Malcolm L. Batson Jr., two sisters; Rosemary Brooks and Janet Moyer and two brothers; William Brooks and Richard Brooks.
A Celebration of Life gathering for Mr. Brooks will be held Saturday, October 1, 2022 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at Clark-Stocking Funeral Chapel, 165 West Oak Street, Harrison, followed by a graveside military honors service at 3:30 p.m. at Maple Grove Cemetery, Harrison.
