Obituary for John Grunow "Jack" Call

Call, John “Jack” Grunow, age 89, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away July 17, 2022 at his home with his family by his side.

Cremation has taken place at Daisy Hill Crematory. A memorial service for Jack will be held at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Wednesday August 10, 2022 at 11 a.m. A luncheon will follow in Reflections Reception Center. Memorial contributions may be to the Cecelia K. Education Trust Fund. Donation envelopes are available at Clark Family Funeral Chapel.

Jack was born on August 10, 1932, in Hackensack, NJ, the son of William Randolph Call and Mildred (Grunow) Call. He earned a degree in Psychology and a Master’s in Education from Michigan State University. Jack married Lorna Kahgegab on March 26, 1977 in Mt. Pleasant. He worked as a consultant for the State of Michigan’s Department of Labor for 50 years and previously for the American Heart Association. Jack was known for his irreverent attitude towards life and his keen sense of humor. He was a huge supporter of Barack Obama, whom he referred to as “Barry”. Jack had an insatiable curiosity about everything and loved to learn. He loved trains, boats, history, politics, and traveling. Jack enjoyed listening to jazz. He spent much of his time helping Tribes raise funds for Tribal Development. Jack especially loved being with his family and having a drink and a stimulating conversation.

Jack is survived by his wife, Lorna, children: Evan Call, Tracey Iaizzi, Claire Call, John Call, Kim (Michael) Otto-McCoy, Carmen Otto, David Otto and Michelle Otto; grandchildren: Adam Iaizzi (Vanessa Calaban), Raymond Iaizzi, Adam Sawmick, Felicia Otto, Christina Otto, Jesus De Los Santos, Mary De Los Santos, Henry Otto, Alexandria Otto, Cobmoosa Otto, Charles Isham, Trevor Isham, Noelle (Bobby) Wells, Terence (Lauren) Isham, Mesha Isham and Royce Otto-Dayson. 25 Great Grandchildren, 1 Great Great Grandson, 1 Brother In law Maynard Kahgegab Sr. and many nieces and nephews.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents and brother, William “Bill” Call and Granddaughter Alexandria Sawmick.
