Obituary for Joyce Ann Baumann

BAUMANN, JOYCE ANN (RHODE), 83, went to be with her Lord and Savior January 17, 2021, due to complications from COVID-19.

Private Services for Joyce will be held. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers or memorial contributions, remember Joyce by being kind to each other.
Joyce was born July 31, 1937, in Detroit, the daughter of Richard and Dorothy (Esch) Rhode. Joyce grew up on the family farm in Remus, along with her brother Robert. She graduated as Valedictorian from Remus Consolidated High School with the Class of 1955. Joyce was an active student and cheerleader. Following graduation, she moved to Grand Rapids and attended college. Joyce married her high school sweetheart, Keith Allen Baumann on September 15, 1956. They celebrated 46 years together until Keith’s passing in 2001. Together, Keith and Joyce owned and operated Baumann’s IGA in Rosebush and Weidman. While Keith was running the businesses, Joyce stayed home and raised their three children, Steve, Terry, and Lisa. After the kids were in school, Joyce worked alongside Keith at the Weidman store as she managed the bakery department and built many relationships with the people she met. Joyce and Keith went on many vacations with friends and members of the IGA Corporation. After years of working at the store, she decided to do something different. She worked at American Security Bank as the switchboard operator. Joyce was perfect for the job; she loved people and talking. After retiring from the bank, she was a volunteer at Central Michigan Community Hospital for many years. Joyce was a woman of many passions and talents including playing cards, cooking, dancing, and decorating. She was an avid Detroit Tigers baseball and U of M football fan. If ever dropping in to see Joyce, the Hallmark Channel would be on. November 2006, Joyce married Edward Natzel. They shared 8 years together until Ed’s passing in 2014. They enjoyed eating out, bus trips, and dancing. Joyce led a God-centered life. She was always a devoted wife, mother, and friend; always putting God and family first. When anyone would ask Joyce advice, she would tell them to pray. She was a great example of being strong, generous, and honest. She loved to laugh, was sharp as a tack, and full of life. Joyce loved company. The door was always open, but plan on sticking around for her to order pizza for everyone. Joyce was an amazing grandmother who made such an impact on the lives of her grandchildren and everyone she met. Friends would describe Joyce as an incredibly unique lady with lots of class, a great personality, and loved people. Joyce was the heart of our family. She was an inspiration to many and is now reunited and rejoicing with her husband Keith, her parents, family members, and good friends.

Joyce is survived by her children, Steve (Khris) Baumann of Lake Isabella, Terry (Brenda) Baumann of Canadian Lakes, Lisa Baumann of Beal City; grandchildren, Bradley Baumann, Andy (Sarah) Baumann, Luke (Tearryn) Baumann, Matt Yuncker, Taylor Baumann (Shannon McCormick Ley), Scott (Kaity) Baumann, and Makaila Yuncker; great-grandchildren Jackson, Eli, Addie, Harper, Conner, Levi; and her brother Robert (Claudia) Rhode.
