Obituary for Joyce Elaine Shaver (Burrows)
Joyce Elaine Shaver-Sanborn, age 77, of Phillipsburg, New Jersey, passed away on Monday, November 6, 2023 at Riverton Rehabilitation, Allentown, Pennsylvania.
Joyce was born August 15, 1946 in Flint, Michigan the daughter of Cecil Proffer and Marion (Phillips) Proffer. Joyce was united in marriage to Mr. Eugene Frederick Shaver on November 28, 1964 in Flint, Michigan. Mr. Shaver preceded Joyce in death on November 9, 2007 after forty-two years of marriage. She was then married to Gary Sanborn in 2017, who passed away in 2020.
Joyce had resided in Phillipsburg, New Jersey since 2020, moving from Harrison. Mrs. Shaver was a member of The Gathering United Methodist Church of Harrison for several years. She enjoyed reading, playing Bingo, loving and caring for her grandchildren, spending time together with her family and taking walks.
Surviving Mrs. Shaver are her two children; David Shaver of Flint, and Shawna Guikema and husband Aaron of Phillipsburg, New Jersey, four loving grandchildren; Brandon Shaver and wife Torrence, Hannah Shaver and fiancé Isaac Stearns, Wiktor Guikema and Agata Guikema, three great-grandchildren, one brother, Jerry Burrows and wife Nancy of Wayne, North Carolina, plus several nieces, nephews and extended family.
Mrs. Shaver also was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters; Denise Proffer and Ruthann Williams and one brother, Jack Burrows.
Funeral services honoring Mrs. Shaver will be held Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. from Clark-Stocking Funeral Chapel and Cremation Service with Pastor Raymond McClintic officiating. Visitation will take place on Saturday, November 11, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial will immediately follow services at Evergreen Cemetery, Harrison. Memorial gifts in memory of Joyce may be considered to: Alzheimer’s Association Michigan Chapter.
