Obituary for Judy Ann Layfield

LAYFIELD, JUDY ANN, age 71, of Shepherd, went home to her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 17, 2022, at Seasons Hospice in Detroit.

Funeral Mass for Judy will be held on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Loren Kalinowski officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow at Reflections Reception Center at Clark Family Funeral Chapel. The family will greet friends at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, March 22, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. with rosary prayed at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will also take place on Wednesday beginning at 10 a.m. until the time of the mass at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Humane Animal Treatment Society, Audubon Society, or R.I.S.E. Advocacy. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel and the church. Judy requested that everyone wear bright cheerful colors to celebrate her life.

Judy was born in Mt. Pleasant, on June 21, 1950, the daughter of Arthur and Virginia (Torpey) Layfield. Judy graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1968 and earned her associates degree from Mid-Michigan Community College. She worked as a (LPN) nurse for 31 years. Judy was a master gardener and served as past president of Mt. Pleasant Garden Club. She was on the founding committee of A Brush with Kindness; founded The Herb Gathering group 30 years ago; and was a member of Community Compassion Network since its inception. Judy was also active with the Isabella Community Soup Kitchen and previously served as the lead cook on Sundays. She was also active with Art Reach, Decorative Painters Association, Audubon Society, and the Landlord Association of Mt. Pleasant.

Judy was a compassionate woman with a kind heart and a fun-loving spirit. She had a contagious laugh and a smile that would light up the room. Her love of flowers, books and art only took second place to her love of animals and children. She was always behind the camera capturing life’s moments or shopping for a good bargain. Those who love her remember some of their favorite times being spent listening to Judy tell stories (in her gentle voice) and laughing with her as she laughed at the memories coming to life.

Judy is survived by her brothers Gary (Connie) Layfield of Mt. Pleasant, Mike Layfield of Shepherd; sister Marsha Layfield of Mt. Pleasant; nieces and nephews Lisa Warren of Mt. Pleasant, Amy (Bob) Haworth of Kalamazoo, Gary (Dawn) Layfield, Jr. of Charlotte, Jeff Layfield of Mt. Pleasant, Amber (Rayce) Hoover of Marine City, Autumn (Josh) Layfield of Mt. Pleasant, Eric Layfield (Samantha) of Grand Rapids, Jon (Kelly) Faber of Mt. Pleasant, Stephanie Blackmer (James) of Arizona, Trisha Blackmer of Mt. Pleasant; many beloved great nieces and nephews; dear friends Diane Storey of Millbrook, Marilyn Richmond of Blanchard, Kim Anderson of Six Lakes, Jean Epple, and countless other treasured friends.
