Obituary for Karen Marie Cudney (Fox)

Karen Marie Cudney of Leota, Michigan passed away peacefully in her home on November, 24,
2022 at the age of 68. She was born in Ionia, Michigan on July 19, 1954 to Roy and Constance
(Wilcox) Fox. Karen married her husband of 51 years, Lynn Cudney, on November 20, 1971.
They welcomed their daughter, Billie Rae Cudney, into the world the following year. Early on in
their marriage, Lynn was enlisted in the Navy and United States Marine Corp, which took the
family out of Michigan. They moved back and spent time in the Lansing area as well as St.
Ignace before settling down and building a home in Leota.
For nearly 30 years, Karen worked at the local grocery stores including Ashcraft’s, Glen’s
Markets, and Family Fare in Harrison. She was known for her hard work ethic, caring demeanor,
and kind smile. While working as a store clerk, Karen took it upon herself to independently study
for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam. She traveled to Michigan State University to
take her test, which she passed on the first try. Karen then began working at the Family Fare
Pharmacy, where she retired from in 2017. In her free time, she enjoyed knitting and crocheting
hats, mittens, and scarves for her family, watching the birds and other local wildlife, working in
her flower gardens, spending time with her kitty cats, and collecting snowmen. Karen was also a
wonderful cook.
Though we have peace in knowing Karen is now with her Lord and Savior, she will be greatly
missed. She is survived by her husband Lynn, daughter Billie (Robert Herron), granddaughter
Katie (Zach) Simon, great-grandsons Oliver and Wyatt, siblings Howard (Shawn) Fox, Lori
Permoda, sister-in-law Cathy Fox, one step-brother, two step-sisters, multiple nieces and
nephews, and bonus daughter Robyn See. Karen was preceded in death by her parents, step
father Windy May, brother Jim Fox, sister Janet Redoutey, and one step-brother.
A private family service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to
MyMichigan Health Hospice in honor of Karen’s life.
