Larry James Hines Sr. 76 of Harrison passed away suddenly at his home on Thursday, October 4, 2018. Larry was born May 1, 1942 in Ecorse, Michigan the son of John Richard Hines and Ethel (Goudy) Hines. Mr. Hines enlisted in the United States Army and served his country during the Vietnam Era and then was enlisted with the United States Army National Guard for several years. Larry had resided in Harrison since 1967, moving from Detroit, Michigan. On January 3, 1989 in California, Mr. Hines was united in marriage to Huong Kim Huynh.
Larry was a member of First Baptist Church, Harrison, American Legion Post 404 also of Harrison and life member of John J. Carton Lodge #436 F. & A.M. of Harrison. He enjoyed taking his son to little league and baseball games, karate and golfing. Larry enjoyed hunting, watching football and news channels and discussing politics, visiting with his neighbors and community members and volunteering his time providing transporting friends, neighbors and church members.
Surviving Mr. Hines is his loving wife of twenty-nine years, Mrs. Huong Kim Hines of Harrison, his son, Larry James Hines Jr. of Madison Heights, Michigan, two sisters; Nancy Gates of California and Janet Miller of Romulus, Michigan, many loving nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Mr. Hines was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters; Violet Hannon and Joyce Hines and two brothers; Richard Hines and John Hines.
Funeral services honoring Mr. Hines will be held Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. from First Baptist Church, 3088 Mostetler Road, Harrison, with Pastor Tim Tanner officiating. Military honors will be presented immediately following funeral services under the auspices of American Legion Post 404 honor guard. Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 9, 2018 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Stocking Funeral Home, Harrison and on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at First Baptist Church. Burial will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery, Harrison, Michigan . Memorial gifts in memory of Mr. Hines may be considered to: First Baptist Church, Harrison.
