Obituary for Laura May Mead (Campbell)

Laura May (Campbell) Mead, age 90, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2022, at Medilodge of Clare in Clare, Michigan.

A Celebration of Life for Laura will be held at Clark Family Funeral on Thursday, June 23, 2022, at 11 a.m. with Benjamen Evers officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. A luncheon will take place after burial in the Reflections Reception Center. The family will receive friends Thursday beginning at 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Laura was born March 25, 1932, in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of William and Bethel (Acker) Campbell. She married James J. Mead on July 15, 1950. Laura enjoyed being with her family, especially the family vacations and family outings. She was a leader of young men and women in the community. Laura was Den Mother for Cub Scouts for several years, a Brownie, Girl Scout and Cadette Scouts leader for girls and young women. She also spent time as a Teacher’s Aide at Ganiard Elementary School. Laura later started a ceramics business, taught classes and made many friends. She became a very accomplished artist at her craft.

Laura is survived by her children Deborah (Mike) Kelley of Manistee, Bethel (Dan) Blondeau of Eaton Rapids, James (Jill) Mead of Fremont, Nick (Teri) Mead of Bell Buckle, TN, Jon (Sandy) Mead of Mason, TN, and Matt (Christy) Mead of Shepherd; 13 grandchildren, Peter, Rachel, Amanda, Becky, Jamie, Chris, Nick, Aaron (Ace), Robert, Jamie, Missie, Nikki, Matt, Jr.; and 17 great-grandchildren; and sister Nancy (Gene) Hoyle of Mt. Pleasant.

Laura was preceded in death by her spouse, James, her parents, an infant daughter, grandson A.J. Mead and three siblings, Donna Beth, Douglas and Glenna.
