Obituary for Leroy Richard "Roy" Klopcic
Klopcic, Leroy “Roy” Richard, age 89, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away August 1, 2023 at his home.
Per Roy’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Services for Roy will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Mt. Pleasant on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Andrew Miller officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. A luncheon will follow the service at the church. Following the luncheon, interment of ashes will take place in the First Presbyterian Church Columbarium. Memorial contributions may be made to the William and Janet Strickler Nonprofit Center. Envelopes will be available at Clark Family Funeral Chapel or at the church.
Roy was born on August 7, 1933, in Highland Park, MI, the son of Rudolph Klopcic and Frances Louise (Onick) Klopcic. He married Joan McBride on August 31, 1957, in Dearborn. Roy proudly served his country in the Marines and in the Army Reserves. He earned his PhD from the University of Michigan. Roy was a professor of Geography and Earth Science at Central Michigan University for 35 years. He acted as the director of the Geographic Information Systems Center for 4 years. Roy enjoyed fly fishing, hiking, backpacking, and camping.
Roy is survived by his wife: Joan Klopcic; children: Timothy Klopcic of Okemos and Jeffrey Klopcic of Bullock Creek; grandchildren: Ashley Kopcic, Ethan Klopcic and Austin Klopcic.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, and sister: Janice Jensen.
