Obituary for Lester Roy Dayton
Lester Roy Dayton 79 of Harrison passed away Monday, August 16, 2021 at his home. Lester was born October 7, 1941 in Mason, Michigan the son of Velmour Lester Dayton and Helen Lucille (Sherwood) Dayton. Lester graduated from Leslie High School, Leslie, Michigan in 1959, and furthered his education and graduated with a Bachelor of Science - Forestry degree in 1963 from Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan.
Mr. Dayton had resided in Harrison since 2015, moving from Leslie. Mr. Dayton was a long-time member of the Michigan Bow Hunters Association. He retired from Len Industries of Leslie as a Machinist with over twenty years of service and prior to working for Len, Lester was previously employed with Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, North Carolina as a Park Ranger. Upon retirement from Len, Lester worked for Willow Creek Golf Club of Stockbridge, Michigan. Lester was an avid hunter, golfer, and outdoorsman. He also enjoyed fishing, ice fishing, bird watching and bird feeding, and watching his beloved MSU Spartan football and Detroit Tigers baseball. Lester spent many years traveling to Colorado and North Dakota for Big Game hunting trips. His largest trophy was when he harvested an Elk with his pickup truck. Many will remember Mr. Dayton as a minimalistic soul with a great big smile, and an all-around great guy.
Surviving Mr. Dayton are his three children: Helen Marie Dayton of Chesapeake, Virginia, Leslie Kilburn and husband Kevin of Findlay, Ohio and Kenneth Warren Dayton and his significant other, TJ Bandiera of Raleigh, North Carolina, three grandchildren: Rachel Lynn Simon of Chesapeake, Nicholas Michael Kilburn of Findlay and Zachary Thomas Kilburn also of Findlay, one great-granddaughter, Lydia Simon of Chesapeake, one brother, Larry Dayton and wife Widge of Leslie, one niece, Karen Visser and husband Matt of Georgia and one nephew, Jeff Dayton and wife Theresa of Michigan, best friend, Tom Bryson of Clare, Michigan, plus many extended family members. Lester was preceded in death by his father, Velmour “Spike” Dayton, his mother, Helen Lucille Dayton and one sister, Virginia Dayton.
Celebration of Life services for Mr. Dayton will be held at The American Legion Post 491, 422 Woodworth Street, Leslie, MI on September 4, 2021 from 4pm to 7pm.
