Obituary for L.J. Pickens
PICKENS, L.J., age 93, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Thursday, November 2, 2023, at Rosebush Manor.
Funeral Services for L.J. will be held at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Monday, November 6, 2023, at 11 a.m. with Benjamen Evers officiating. Immediately following the funeral service, a luncheon will be held in Reflections Reception Center. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 5, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the family for a fund to be determined. Envelopes are available at the funeral chapel.
L.J. Was born December 19, 1929, in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Albert and Beatrice (Stowell) Pickens. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1946-1954. L.J. married Della Earnest on March 26, 1949; she preceded him in death July 29, 2001. He worked for the City of Mt. Pleasant Fire Department for 26 years, retiring in 1986. L.J. was an officer of the Mt. Pleasant Little League for 16 years; years later, he was honored to have the baseball field named after him. Hunting, fishing, and especially watching his kids and grandkids play ball gave him great pride.
L.J. is survived by his sons, Steven (Susan) Pickens of Rosebush; Gary (Robin) Pickens of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren Ryan (Kate) Pickens, Scott Pickens, Kyle (Jess) Pickens, Kelly (Eric) Dawson, Michelle Pickens, Jaren Gebhard, Janel Loose; great-grandchildren Jacob, Joshua, Kensey, Kaleigh, Kyler, Nicholas, Maggie, Brenna; brother Gail Pickens; sister Ernestine Pohl; and several nieces and nephews.
L.J. was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son Robert Pickens; sisters Tracy and Phyllis; and sisters-in-law Sue and Richard.
