Obituary for Margaret Sue "Peg" Bailey (Assmann)

Margaret Sue Bailey, always known as Peg, died peacefully on Saturday, January 9, 2021.

Peg was born on April 15, 1956, to Norman F. Assmann, Sr. and Bernetta Bryant Assmann in Mt. Pleasant, MI. She was welcomed into the family by her sister and two brothers. She was soon joined by a younger sister. Peg attended Mt. Pleasant elementary schools, graduating from MPHS with the Class of 1974. She graduated from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor of Applied Arts degree that reflected her love of nature and creativity. Peg was a nurturer, caring for many dogs and cats, with a special love for her Scottish Terriers, Nigel, Jack, Findlay and Tillie. Her gardens were beautiful. She spent many, many hours “playing in the dirt”. Peg was an amazingly creative person. She had a talent for taking the most ordinary objects and making something meaningful, personal and extraordinary. Her gifts will be treasured and appreciated by all who received them. Peg worked many jobs but was most well known for working in education from elementary to university. She had a special love for teaching young children. Seeing them learn and flourish was most rewarding to her. Her greatest accomplishment though was seen in her son, Matthew. Her love and caring for him was returned in his loving concern for her.

Peg is survived by her son Matthew E. Bailey; her sisters Nancy (David) Cantrell and Kathleen (Benjamin)Gunning; her brothers Norm (Marilyn) Assmann, Jr. and David (Kathy) Assmann. She also loved and cared for her nieces, Nicole (Assmann) Garrett, Tracy (Cantrell) McDonald and Emily Gunning and her nephews Steven Assmann, Brian Assmann, Chris Cantrell, Gabriel Cantrell, Patrick Assmann, and Jason Assmann. Great nieces and nephews IslaGrace, Ryleigh, Nolan, Colin, Zade, Quin and Jaxx also survive her. Her life was also blessed with many friends, extended family and Matthew’s father’s family who mourn her loss.

Peg’s wishes were for cremation with a family celebration on a warm, sunny spring day. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant, MI.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Leiomyosarcoma Foundation (NLMSF.ORG).
