Obituary for Marlene Sue Jackson

JACKSON, MARLENE SUE, age 65, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2021, at her home.

A Memorial Service for Marlene will take place in the West Lawn at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Monday, May 17, 2021, at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends the day of the service from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Envelopes will be at the funeral chapel.

Marlene was born March 21, 1956, in Mt. Pleasant, daughter of Homer and Irene (Chippewa) Jackson. She was a member of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe and was very proud of her Native American heritage. She was very passionate about her family and tribal geneology. She was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant Public School System in 1975 and was an excellent softball player. Marlene proudly served her country in the U.S. National Guard from May 2, 1987 to September 5, 1991. She worked for the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe, The Card Room, and GM in Grand Rapids. She loved watching Jeopardy and doing crossword puzzles. Marlene enjoyed traveling. Her last trip was to the sacred Black Hills and Crazy Horse Memorial, a spiritual journey for her.

Marlene is survived by her brother, Donald (Leigh) Chippewa, Sr. of Mt. Pleasant; nieces and nephews, Candace (Jason) Benzinger, John (Melita) Chippewa, Nicole (Tommy) Chippewa, Ryan (Kaylene) Chippewa, Eliza Jackson, Michael Jackson, Patricia Jackson, Michael Bennett II, Lisa Marie Bennett, Gabriel Jackson Judson, Amelia Jackson Judson, and Mitchell Jackson; several great nieces and nephews, including special nephew, Tyler Jackson; and her best friends, Rene Alaniz, Lindy Hunt, and Ann Dunigan.

Marlene was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; brothers, Harvey Bennett, David Jackson and infant brothers, John Chippewa and Lawrence Jackson; sister, Delores Jackson; nephews, Donald Chippewa, Jr., Ridge Jackson, and Taylor Vasquez; her dogs, Gunner, Precious, Niles, Bullitt, Jordan, and Ashi; and several aunts and uncles.
