Obituary for Mary Anne Stone
STONE, MARY ANNE, age 91, of Sturgis, Michigan, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Thursday, June 1, 2023, at Thurston Woods Village in Sturgis, surrounded by her family.
Funeral Services for Mary will be held at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at 12 p.m. with Pastor Joe Beavan officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery. A Luncheon will take place following the committal service at Reflections Reception Center. The family will receive friends on Tuesday beginning at 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.
Mary was born on March 25, 1932, in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Boyd and Allene (Avery) Nickel. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School with the class of 1950. Following graduation, she married Eugene R. Stone in 1953. He preceded her in death on April 27, 2018. Together, they owned and operated two weekly newspapers: The Fowler Post for two years, and The Edmore Times for 14 years. Mary retired in 1992 and joined Gene in retirement. They enjoyed traveling to Texas for many years. Mary enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing cards, and working outdoors in her garden. She was a member of the American Legion Post #223 in Constantine.
Mary is survived by her children, Michael A. (Cheryl) Stone of Lake Geneva, WI, and Sheila Anne (John) Stears of Constantine; grandchildren, David (Jill) Stone, Andrew (Kelly) Stone, Isaiah (Jackie) Stone, all of Lake Geneva, WI, Jacob Lintz, Amanda Stears, both of Constantine; great-grandchildren, Masen Stears, Brycen Bellows, Noah Stone, Ava Stone, Harper Stone, Carter Stone, Taylor Stone, Michael Stone; special nephew, Daniel (Roni) Howard; and special nieces, Sandra Langlois and Anna (Kevin) Quick.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents Boyd and Allene Nickel; husband Eugene; granddaughter Brittany Stears; sister Martha Mogg; and brother-in-law, Junior Mogg.
