Obituary for Mary Ann Walker (Polehanki)

Mary Ann Polehanki Walker, age 71, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Thursday, July 9, 2020 with her loving husband by her side.

Mary was born on December 22, 1948, in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Edmond and Melba (Dullinger) Sominski. She graduated in 1967 from Kearsley High School in Flint and continued her education at the University of Michigan – Flint. In 2014, she retired from the Mid Michigan Community Action agency.

She married the love of her life, James Raymond Walker, on January 29, 2011, in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Jim and Mary loved spending time together by touring the great outdoors on the Harley, attending many outdoor concerts, and relaxing at Bass Lake, where they are both members of the Lake Rod & Gun Club. Mary also enjoyed window shopping, a good garage sale, eating at fine restaurants, and was an avid animal lover. She loved all of Mother Nature’s creatures and was especially fond of the black and white tuxedo cats.

Mary is survived by her husband and children Dayna Polehanki, Rene (Tyler) Pastotnik, Jamie (David) Mason, and Robert (Kimberly) Walker; many grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents.

Due to the ongoing indoor gathering restrictions, a private family memorial service will be determined at a later date. In the meantime, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, you might consider donating to the Karma Kat Café of Mt. Pleasant, MI or to HATS, the Humane Animal Treatment Society of Mt. Pleasant, MI, as these were two of Mary’s favorite charities.
