Obituary for Matthew Paul Cole
COLE, MATTHEW PAUL, age 58, of Carson City, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Thursday, December 21, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family.
A Celebration of Life for Matt will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at 12 p.m. at First Baptist Church Fellowship Center, 10204 E. Carson City Rd., Carson City, Michigan, 48811 with Pastor Michael McAlvey officiating. The family will greet friends beginning at 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. A luncheon will take place immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to B#4 Foundation, American Kidney Foundation or Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Matt was born on October 14, 1965, in Carson City, Michigan, son of Andrew and Sharon (Pyles) Cole. He grew up in Shepherd and graduated from Shepherd High School with the class of 1983. Following graduation, Matt earned his bachelor’s degree in education from Central Michigan University. Matt taught high school for over 20 years at Montabella, Mt. Pleasant, Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe, and community education programs. During his teaching career, Matt was also active in coaching football, baseball, track, and wrestling. He was also a hunters safety instructor and 4-H leader during those years. Matt was an avid outdoorsman, always ready for hunting and fishing; he created his own fishing poles and lures. Matt loved reading and had a personal library of over 2000 books. He was a lifelong Detroit Tigers fan and was a true believer in the Detroit Lions.
Matt is survived by his brother Andrew (Patricia) Cole; nieces Cara (Bradley) Mazure, Tricia (Zack) Yaple; great-nephew Remy Mazure; great-niece Abigail Yaple; girlfriend Amy Houck and her sons Caleb (Aimie) Houck, Ryan Houck, Chris Houck, Evan (Stella) Houck; Amy’s parents Dennis and Sherrie Roberts; and many cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.
