MURPHY, MATTHEW ALAN, age 37, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Friday, September 23, 2016, in Mt. Pleasant.

Funeral Services for Matt will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 28, at Clark Family Funeral Chapel. A Luncheon will follow the Service in the Reflections Reception Center. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 27, at Clark Family Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Matt’s children. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Matthew was born August 5, 1979, in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Martin and Sheila (Butters) Murphy. He graduated in the Class of 1997 from Mt. Pleasant High School. Matt was the current owner of the family business Central Motor Sports and had worked there most of his life. Matt loved riding and racing motocross. He was a lifetime member of the American Motorcyclist Association.

Matt is survived by his significant other of 13 years, Erica Redmond; his daughter Remmie Murphy and soon-to-be born son; his parents Marty and Sheila Murphy of Mt. Pleasant and Ken and Marilyn Redmond of Saginaw; his grandmother Nelda Murphy of Clare; his brother Alexander (Tabatha) Murphy and nephew Callahan Murphy of Renton, WA; his sister Elizabeth (Andrew) Smith of Chicago, IL; Erica’s sisters Karen (Brent) Colley and nephew Caden and niece Payton, of Saginaw, Mollie (Pete) Vondette and nephew Spencer and niece Shelby, of Saginaw, and Colleen (Ben) Nelson and nephew Liam of Rochester, MN, as well as many other beloved family and friends

Matt was preceded in death by sister Tara Murphy; grandparents Frank Butters, Margaret Butters, Donald “Bud” Murphy and uncle Doug Murphy.
