Obituary for Michael J. Giannola
Michael J. Giannola 67 of Harrison passed away suddenly on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at MidMichigan Medical Center-Gladwin. Michael was born January 13, 1952 in Wyandotte, Michigan the son of William J. and Marjorie G. (Moltz) Giannola. Michael graduated in 1969 from Roosevelt High School.
Mr. Giannola retired from Great Lakes Steel after thirty years of service. Michael had resided in Harrison since 2002, moving from Taylor, Michigan. Michael enjoyed spending time on his property, taking walks, watching and feeding the wild animal and birds and being close to his family. He was an amateur astronomer, and loved sharing his knowledge with adults as well as high schoolers, as he was invited to Harrison High School twice to lecture the students on his knowledge of the universe. He spent many hours tinkering in his garage, and working on anything that had a gasoline engine. Michael spent three years vacationing in Belize with his family, making memories and spending time together. Michael will be most remembered by his generous soul and love of helping others.
Michael is survived by his loving sister, Mrs. Bernadette Dawson and husband Wayne of Harrison, his sister in law, Ruth E. Giannola of Harrison, one niece, Lori Giannola of Harrison, three nephews; Ian Holmes Jr. of Southgate, Michigan, William Holmes of Harrison and Veto Giannola also of Harrison, one great-niece, Portia Giannola, two great-nephews; Keegan Giannola and Brandon Callahan, plus a host of extended family members and friends. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Billy Giannola and Leo Thomas Giannola, two brothers in law; Larry Morley and Ian Holmes Sr. and one great-niece, Sandra Giannola.
Funeral services honoring Mr. Giannola will be held Sunday, February 3, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. from Stocking Funeral Home, Harrison with family officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday, from 2:00 p.m. until time of service. Burial will take place at Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery, Flat Rock, Michigan.
